Preparing Your San Jose Home for Rainy Season
Published May 14, 2026 by AG Windows and Gutters
A short exterior checklist to run before the first real storm, so small maintenance items don't turn into claims.
South Bay rain arrives all at once. The homes that come through fine are the ones where a few small things were handled in advance. This is the list we walk through with customers every fall.
The Checklist
- Clear gutters completely and flush every run with water
- Confirm each downspout actually drains and directs water away from the foundation
- Check fascia boards for soft spots or peeling paint
- Look for loose or missing roof tiles and shingles
- Trim branches overhanging the roof so debris stops falling into gutters
- Add splash blocks or extensions where water pools near the foundation
- Clear any yard drains and area drains of debris
Timing Matters
Book gutter cleaning after the leaf drop finishes but before the first storm. That window fills up fast in the South Bay, and once the rain starts everyone calls at once. Getting on the schedule early is the difference between routine maintenance and an emergency call.
Bundle and Save
Most customers pair pre-season gutter cleaning with a window cleaning so the house heads into winter clean inside and out. We'll quote both together, and our quarterly plan members get 15% off additional services.
